When the St.Louis Browns signed Fred Haney as manager in 1939 his first offical act was to sign Frank as his pitching coach. Prior to signing with the Browns Franks minor league career began in 1917 in the PCL through 1938, from 1935-1938 he was a player-manager. During this time he became known as the keenest mentor of young pitchers. He was also the last of the PCL spitball pitchers. The pitching records he established during sound like something ultra fictional. He won 295 games and lost 178 contest in 16 years. He pitched 53 consecutive innings without permitting a base on balls. He won 33 games out of 34 in 1930 and 1931, starting and finishing every game.
