Personal
- Resided in Quincy, Illinois in 1952.
- Self-identified as being of American-German ancestry.
- In his first professional game with Henderson in the 1947 Lone Star League, his twin brother, a pitcher, got beat and Elvin hurt his leg.
- Throwing out four Fort Worth players in 1950 that helped him win a regular post on the Beaumont club was his greatest thrill.
Pre-professional career
- Attended high school in Quincy, Illinois.
- Played baseball and basketball in high school.
- Graduated from Quincy College with a B. A. degree in 1950.
- Played American Legion ball in Quincy in 1943 and 1944.
Outside of baseball
- Was a sporting goods salesman during the off-season as of 1952.
- Served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and 1946.
- Tappe and his brother ran a sporting goods business in Quincy after their baseball careers ended.[1]
Achievements
- Tappe was selected to the Quincy HS and the Quincy College Hall of Fame.[1]
