  • Resided in Quincy, Illinois in 1952.

  • Self-identified as being of American-German ancestry.
  • Playing in his first professional game with Henderson in the 1947 Lone Star League, his twin brother, a pitcher, got beat and Elvin hurt his leg.
  • Throwing out four Fort Worth players in 1950 that helped him win a regular post on the Beaumont club was his greatest thrill.

  • Attended high school in Quincy, Illinois.
  • Played baseball and basketball in high school.
  • Graduated from Quincy College with a B. A. degree in 1950.
  • Played American Legion ball in Quincy in 1943 and 1944.

  • Worked as a sporting goods salesman during the off-season in 1952 and 1953.
  • Served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and 1946.
  • Tappe and his brother ran a sporting goods business in Quincy after their baseball careers ended.[1]

  • Tappe was selected to the Quincy HS and the Quincy College Hall of Fame.[1]
