Profile

Mickey seemed destined for a New York career. He made his professional start as a member of the Yankees farm organization in 1935 at Bassett,Va. He ranks winning a position on the Bassett team as his greatest baseball thrill, for he hitch-hiked 500 miles from his home in Luzerne to get it. From Bassett he traveled the same road as so many of the Yankee ball players, through Norfolk, Binghamton and Newark. With Joe Gordon as competition at second base his chances were not favorable making it to Yankee Stadium. He was traded on Dec. 27,1939 (see transactions).
