  • The Midwest League played a 130 game, two-division, split-season schedule which began on April 22 and ended on August 31. The first half ended on June 25.
  • An All-Star Game was played on July 24 between a Midwest League All-Star team and first-half wins leader Wisconsin Rapids; the game was officially ruled a 1-1 tie played through 10 innings[1].
    • An eleventh inning was actually played, with the teams' managers on the mound. The Stars won that version of the game by a 6-1 score[2].
  • A two-tier championship playoff was held, with the best-of-three championship round won by Danville.
  • Total 1972 attendance: 545,121.
