  • The Midwest League played a 140 game, three-division, split-season schedule which began on April 4 and ended on September 2. The first half ended on June 16.
  • An All-Star Game was played on June 19 between All-Star Teams representing the league's Eastern and Western halves. The East won by a 10-4 score.
  • A three-tier championship playoff was held after the season, including two wild cards whose selection was based on their full-season performance. The best-of-five championship round was won by West Michigan.
  • Total 1996 attendance: 3,168,632.
