- The Midwest League played a 140 game, three-division, split-season schedule which began on April 9 and ended on September 7. The first half ended on June 21.
- An All-Star Game was played on June 23 between All-Star Teams representing the league's Eastern and Western halves. The West won by a 7-4 score[1].
- A three-tier championship playoff was held after the season, including two wild cards whose selection was based on their full-season performance. The best-of-five championship round was won by West Michigan.
- Total 1998 attendance: 2,892,327.
