  • Attended Kempsville, Virginia High School.
  • Won letters in baseball, basketball and track in high school.

  • Gave up one hit in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers in 1947 as a pitcher for the Cleveland Indians; that was the last hit the Detroit Tigers got off of him that afternoon.
  • Led the 1944 Piedmont League in shutouts with 5 and strikeouts with 232.

  • Raises horses and cattle during the off-season.
