Pre-professional career
- Played baseball and basketball in high school.
- Played varsity baseball at LeMoyne College; where he earned a B.S. in Accounting; as a freshman, he once hit back-to-back home runs with his brother, who was a senior.
- Played semi-pro ball with Guelph in the Ontario Intercounty League for two years. Hit three HRs and a double in a game.
- Played semi-pro ball with the Scranton Red Sox in the Atlantic Collegiate League. Batted .304 in 39 games, with 20 HRs.
