Personal
- Resided in Portland, Oregon in 1953.
- Self-identified as being of Scottish-Irish ancestry.
- Took over coaching in 1952.
- Wanted a tryout with the Los Angeles Angels but his uncle did not think it was a smart idea.
- In his first pro game at Muskogee in 1936 he was called in to pitch with the bases loaded and proceeded to strike out the first two batters and then forced the third to pop up.
- Once he struck out 16 men in one game and also hit two home runs in another game.
- The strangest thing he ever witnessed was a team scoring 11 runs in the first inning after two were out when he was with the Mission club.
- Is a nephew of David P. Fleming, former President of the Los Angeles club.
