  • Resided in New Castle, Pennsylvania in 1953.
  • Self-identified as being of Dutch-Irish ancestry.
  • Had a bad day in his first pro game in 1946 with Lynn and figured he was in the wrong business.
  • Hitting a home run in the last of the ninth inning with the bases loadedto win a game 4-3 was his greatest thrill.

  • Led the 1949 Piedmont League in triples with 13.
  • Led the 1950 Pioneer League in batting average with .368.
  • Was third in batting average with .327 in the 1947 Canadian-American League.
