Smith was hanged on Nov 29, 1895, in Decatur, Ill. for the murder of his daughter, Louise, age 5, and his sister-in-law, Edna Buchert, age 17, on Sept 29, 1895 at the home of Frank Buchert, his father-in-law. Smith was born in Pendleton, Ind. in approximately 1857. [1] [2]
