• Resided in Long Beach, California in 1952.
• Resided in Long Beach, California in 1953.
• Self-identified as being of Scottish ancestry.
• Listed hobby as golf in 1952 and 1953.
• Described as one of the finest fielding first basemen in the game in the 1952 PCL Thumbnail Sketches.
• Was an accomplished drummer.
• Getting his first major league home run in Yankee Stadium in 1946 was his biggest thrill.

• Was the first baseman on that school's Southern California championship team in 1936.

• Hit .316 for Springfield in the 1939 Illinois-Indiana-Iowa League to help them win the pennant.
• Was honored in 1950 by Look magazine as being the outstanding Minor League first baseman in organized baseball.
