Chucky Yates' hometown is Alcoa Tennessee. After high school he attended nearby Maryville College where he had a successful college career. In 1995 he led the nation in DIII in stolen bases, he was the 3rd toughest batter to strike out in the nation, and was ranked 8th in the nation in runs scored. He also had a span of 42 consecutive stolen bases that ranked 3rd all-time in 1995. In 1996 he was 2nd in the nation in stolen bases and in 1997 was 4th in the nation in stolen bases. Once his college career was over his stolen base numbers landed him 6th all-time in DIII.
