Pre-professional career
- Inducted into the Gettysburg College Hall of Athletic Honor in 1978.[1]
- He excelled at baseball (playing second base and centerfield), batting .521.[2]
- He was a guard on the basketball team. leading the team in scoring in his sophomore and senior seasons.
- He was a fullback in football, being named to honorable mention on the Williamson All-America team and the Little All-America team. He was a Maxwell Club Award recipient; Associated Press All-State two years in a row; and All-East junior and senior years.
