Pre-professional career

  • In 1960, he was selected to represent the San Francisco Bay area in the annual Hearst Sandlot Classic Game in New York.
  • In 1961, he led the Big Eight Conference in batting (.464) and was named all-conference third baseman.
  • Played semi-pro ball for Gino Benedetti's and Pomona Tile in San Francisco.

Achievements

  • Led 1965 Eastern League second basemen in fielding (.975), putouts (340), assists (357) and double lays (92).
  • Batted .270 in 38 games in the 1964 Florida Instructional League.
