edit

George Shoch, short stop and captain of the Milwaukee Base Ball Club, is a native of the Quaker City, and was born in 1863. He is 5ft. 7 1/2in. in height and draws the beam at 170 pounds. He made his first appearance as a professional ball player with the Hartfords in 1885, and after finishing that season was re-engaged for the season of 1886. He next appeared in the uniform of the Washington Club in 1887, and his genial disposition, good all round play and excellent coaching as a captain made him very popular with his club mates and base ball cranks. He remained with the Washingtons throughout the seasons of 1887, 1888 and part of 1889 when the Milwaukee Club purchased his release. After joining the Brewers he was at once installed as captain of the team, and he piloted the club for the remainder of the season. The management was so pleased with his excellent work that he was re-engaged to fill the dual posts of captain and short stop of the team for 1890, and his work has fully warranted the choice. Shoch as an all round player has certainly no superior among the cracks of the Western Association. [1]
