- Graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis in 1955.
- Played baseball, basketball and football in high school.
- Named to the All-State baseball team and was Most Valuable Player in football in Minneapolis in his senior year.
- Attended the University Of Minnesota.
- Played American Legion ball.

- Works as a construction worker during the off-season.
