A. G. Alberts, third baseman and all round player of the Milwaukee Club, is in the front rank among the leading players of the Western Association. He is in his twenty-eighth year, 5ft. 6/12in. high, and weighs 180 pounds. After several years' play as an amateur, during which period he earned a great reputation, he entered the professional ranks in 1883, his first engagement being with the Reading, Pa., Club. In 1884 he signed with the Binghamtons, and in the following year his grand all round play in the uniform of the Syracuse Stars brought him into prominent notice. Throughout the seasons of 1886 and 1887 he played with the Toronto team. In 1888 he signed a Cleveland contract, but just before the season closed his release was purchased by the Milwaukees, of the Western Association, and he has remained with the Cream City representatives ever since. Third base is always in safe keeping when Alberts is around; he is an expert in stealing bases, and when a run is wanted to win the game he is just the man to get there with the stick. His averages for this season up to a recent date are, batting .276, third base .884. [1]
