At Boardman High, played football, basketball, and baseball. At Ohio University, he was second in the NCAA in batting average in 1958 (.467) and was named to the All-Mid-American Conference team. He was also all-district and on the NCAA All-American Third Team. In 1979, he was inducted into the Ohio University Athletics Hall of Fame[1].
