Costic J. "Jerry" Navrocki 1914-2010 PITTSFIELD Mr. Costic J. "Jerry" Navrocki, 95, of 169 Valentine Road died Friday, August 20, 2010 at Berkshire Medical Center. He was born in Throop, Pennsylvania on September 27, 1914, a sone of the late Joseph and Alice Kamiewski Navrocki and attended schools in Throop, Pennsylvania. In 1937 he entered professional baseball and played for the Fostoria team in the Ohio State League for one year, then came to Pittsfield and played for the Pittsfield Electric. In 1941 he entered the Piedmont League in Portsmouth, Ohio and in 1943 he played baseball for the Triple Cities in the Eastern League in Binghamton, New York. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army and saw overseas combat in Central Europe and the Rhineland and received several campaign medals. He was a former communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and a former member of the Berkshire Hills Country Club. He enjoyed golf and fishing. Upon discharge from the Army he became employed by the City of Pittsfield where he was a member of the Pittsfield Fire Department from 1947 to 1956. He then became proprietor of the West Side Market from 1956 to 1968, and he retired in 1968. His wife, the former Louise Rubbo, died on Dec. 5, 2003. They were married Nov. 9, 1946. Survivors included one brother, Walter Navrocki, of Throop, Pa., one sister, Irene Esgro, of Dickson City, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Caputo and Helen Myers. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Thursday, August 26, at 8 a.m. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Monsignor Michael A. Shershanovich, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME will be Wednesday, August 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. [1]
