  • In his senior year, he went undefeated, pitching his team to a state championship.
  • Twice named as team's MVP and All-Alabama.
  • Played Little League, Pony League, Colt League, and American Legion ball.
  • Was St. Louis' first selection in the regular phase of the June 1970 free agent draft.

Transactions

  • Was on the disabled list most of the 1970 season after breaking his collar bone on July 25 when he was hit by a thrown ball.
  • Came to Philadelphia as partial payment for Curt Flood's failure to report.
