- Resided in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma in 1952 and 1953.
- Self-identified as being of Scottish-Irish-German-Indian ancestry.
- Returned to the Portland Beavers after serving in the Armed Forces in 1952 just prior to the season opener.

- Attended Fort Gibson, Oklahoma High School.
- Was captain of the baseball and basketball teams in high school.
- Played American Legion ball.

- Caught 38 consecutive games while playing for the Hollywood club in 1948.

- Was recalled into the service after being in action during World War II.
