Pre-professional career

• Led his high school team to back-to-back state titles in 1995-96
• Was a high school teammate of Darnell McDonald and Donzell McDonald
• Two-time All Big 12 and all-American at Texas Tech
• Played with Team USA in the Intercontinental Cup in 1997 and the 1996 USA Baseball Junior National Team

Achievements

• Hit .286 in four games for Team USA in November 2001
• Hit a walkoff home run in his major league debut on August 23, 2002 -- the first since Billy Parker on September 9, 1971.
