[edit] Pre-professional career

  • Played Babe Ruth baseball and American Legion ball.
  • Played baseball and football in high school; was named All-Alameda County in baseball his senior year.
  • Played baseball at Chabot Junior College where he earned an A.A. degree in Police Science.
  • Played semi-pro ball for Hustead's in Oakland, California and for teh San Rafael (CA) Braves in the Western Baseball Association.

  • Led 1970 Northwest League in games started and pitchers in putouts (10); ninth in ERA.
  • Played in 1971 Western Carolinas League All-Star Game.
  • On October 17, 1970, he pitched a 1-0, no-hit, no-run games in the Peninsula Winter League against the Minnesota Twins' team. He faced the minimum 24 batters (game was scheduled as a 7-inning second game of a double-header); one batter reached first on an error in the fifth inning but was erased on a double play.
