He is more commonly known as Gary York. His father, Lavis ("Lew" "Lewis" "Snooks",) played professional baseball briefly after WWII for teams in Carrolton, Georgia and Vancouver. Gary's uncle, Rudy, was a seven-time American League All-Star who played for the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Athletics from 1937-1948.
