  • Played Junior League Legion ball at Vancouver in 1949 and 1950.
  • In 1950 his Junior League Legion team won the Southern Division and district titles.
  • He was one strike away from a no-hit, no-run game with the Junior Legion team.
  • In his first pro game he went in as a relief pitcher for Portland and set the side down without a hit with two strikeouts.
