- Resided in Birmingham, Alabama in 1952 and 1953.
- Self-identified as being of African-American ancestry.
- Says the toughest thing in baseball, as far as he is concerened, was being released by Scranton, a Boston Red Sox farm club, and he was hitting .333 at the time.
- Says hitting a home run with the bases loaded off a pitcher who the night before had struck him out, also with the bases loaded, was his greatest baseball thrill.
