• Resided in Los Angeles, California in 1952.
• Self-identified as being of English ancestry.
• Had a good singing voice in 1952, according to the PCL Thumbnail Sketches.
• Met Tony Lupien who was playing at Harvard and a friendship was started that resulted in Lupien suggesting to the Hollywood Stars that they sign Woods in 1947 after Pinky had been playing organized baseball for six years.

• Attended Crosby High School in Waterbury, Connecticut.
• Won three letters in baseball in high school.
• Was captain of the baseball team one year in high school.
• Attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
• Compiled a 18-0 record in baseball at college.

• Helped the Hollywood Stars win the pennant in 1949 by winning 23 games and losing 12.
• Was tied for the lead for the most games won with 23 in the 1949 Pacific Coast League.
• Led the 1948 Pacific Coast League in most games lost with 20, most innings pitched with 279, most hit batsmen with 12, most wild pitches with 13 and most games started.

• Was obtained by the Hollywood Stars from the Indianapolis Indians in 1947.
