• Resided in Chicago, Illinois in 1951 and 1954.
• Self-identified as being of Polish ancestry.
• Hobby was collecting old phonograph records in 1951.
• Brother of Benny Kozub.

• Graduated from Bowen High School in 1948 and participated in baseball, basketball and track.
• Lettered in all three sports.
• Before entering pro ball he played for Concordia, Kansas in the Amateur Baseball League of America.

• Was a salesman during the off-season.
• Served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
