William (Red) Boyd Whitson is single and lives in Pacific Beach, California per the 1952 California League Gold Book (Fourth Edition). His nationality is Scotch-Irish. He graduated from La Jolla, California High School in 1951 and played baseball and football and was on the rifle team. He is a commercial fisherman during the off-season. He owns his own boat and takes parties out to fish off Southern California and Mexican coasts. He describes his most interesting and "most discouraging" experience as losing his first start in pro ball, 11-2, to last place Bakersfield." "To add to my deflated ego" he says, "I learned about two weeks later that I had also set a new league record for the most wild pitches in a single game, five....and it would have been ten if they had men on base when a few others hit the screen." He holds the league record for the most wild pitches in one game with 5 and in one inning with 3; both are also the known professional record. He pitched two one-hit games last season.
