Pre-professional career

  • Played baseball, soccer, and basketball in high school.
  • Played varsity baseball and soccer at Rider.
  • In 1967, helped lead Rider to a NCAA District 2 title and fifth place tie in the College World Series.
  • In 1968, played semi-pro ball for Rapid City (SD) Chiefs in the Basin League; named to all-star team and named league's MVP.
  • In 1968, he also played for the Boulder (CO) Collegians in the National Baseball Congress tournament.

Achievements

  • Eighth in 1971 Carolina League in batting average (.299) and named to league's all-star team and was voted league's MVP.
