• Played baseball, football, and basketball in high school.
• Signed to first contract by Walker Cress.

• Played for San Francisco team in the Arizona Instructional League during the Winter of 1963, batting .262 in 25 games.

• Served in the U. S. Army for four months under Reserve Training Plan.
