- Lettered in baseball, basketball, football, and track in high school.
- Pitched four no-hitters in 1962, but lost three of them on errors.
- Played Little League, Pony League, Colt League, American Legion, and Connie Mack baseball.

- On August 18, 1964, he pitched a seven-inning no-hit, no-run game against 1964 Daytona Beach, the first in Miami professional baseball history.
