- Pitched six no-hitters in high school, including two in one week.
- In the Texas state AAAA playoffs, he pitched eight games in one week -- a total of 66 innings.
- In 1971, in a Connie Mack regional tournament in Lamar, Colorado, he pitched a no-hitter against the Arkansas state champs and was named tourney most valuable pitcher.
