[edit] Dispute of Gatewood's expansion draft status

Moved here from the main page by GarverP01, originally posted by StanleyL01.

According to the Baseball-Reference.com website for Bobby Shantz (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/shantbo01.shtml), Bobby Shantz was drafted by the Washington Senators from the New York Yankees on December 14, 1960 and on October 10, 1961 was drafted by the Houston Colt .45s from the Pittsburgh Pirates. And Gatewood was not drafted by the Mets in the expansion draft but was drafted by the Mets on November 27, 1961 from Dallas/Ft. Worth as part of the rule 5 draft of Minor League Players. Also I believe the standard symbol for teams representing 2 Cities is is a slash. A hyphen is the standard sybol for franchises that moved during the season.

StanleyL01's assertion about the conventions for slashes versus hyphens is exactly backwards. We follow Kevin Johnson's convention, which uses slashes for movements and dashes for co-representation. The only exception is when the official name of the club has a slash, such as the current Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team, or the Springfield/Ozark independent team of the early 2000s. --Ted Turocy (2009-12-19 21:32, 18 December 2009 (EST)
