Opie Pace

SPRING HOPE — Opie Pace, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at Wake Medical Center.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, from the chapel of Spring Hope Funeral Home by the Rev. William R. Bussey. Interment will follow in Spring Hope Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Opie was a member of Stanhope Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He worked for the Spring Hope Police Department for 30 years and was the chief for over 20 years. He pitched for the Boston Red Sox Farm League in his early career. He was born in Nash County to the late Henry and Elmira Strickland Pace.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith B. Pace of the home; a daughter, Gayle Pace of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie Pace and wife, Brenda, of Momeyer; three grandchildren, Ashley Pace and wife, Kim, of Indian Trail, Patrick Pace and Daniel Pace; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Aubrey Pace of Indian Trail.

The family will receive friends at Spring Hope Funeral Home, today from 4-8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.
