Walter S. Sieminski, age 85, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Harborside of Sylvania. Walter was born on May 8, 1916, in Cain, PA, to Joseph and Magdalena (JAMSZESKE) SIEMINSKI. In his early years Walter was an excellent baseball pitcher in the Minor Sandlot League. He had played for the Curtice, Ohio, Team and the Page Dairy Team and other teams. In 1936, he was voted the best Sandlot player by the Toledo Newsbee and was the guest of the Newsbee to the 1937 World Series. Walter was also invited to the spring training camp of the former Philadelphia Athletics under Connie Mack. Walter was also invited to pitch before major league scouts in Dayton, OH, in an exhibition game in the National Amateur Tournament. Walter retired from the City of Toledo where he worked in the Maintenance Department for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Beverly; by his sister, Sophie, and his brother, Joseph. Surviving are his sons, Dean (Kazuko) and Danny (Janet) Sieminski; grandchildren, Jason, Cassandra and Sean, and by brothers, Steve and Fred Sieminski. Friends may call at the Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions to Heartland-Hospice.
