edit

Tom Flanagan, the hustling pitcher, heavy batter and general all-round fielder, who is now a member of the Lincoln, Neb., Club, the latest addition to the Western Association, was born in Wilmington, Del., twenty-five years ago. He weighs 170 pounds and is just a shade over six feet in altitude. He made his debut as a professional in the uniform of the Zanesville Club in 1885, for whom he played two seasons. In 1887 he was with the Kalamazoos, and the following year he signed a Detroit contract. Last season he was the star pitcher of the Sioux City Club. At the beginning of the present year he signed with the Milwaukees, but before the base ball season had advanced very far he transferred his services to the Des Moines Club, and remained with that unfortunate aggregation of ball players till they disbanded. He was immediately signed by the Lincolns, who had taken the place left vacated by the ill-fated "Original Package" team, and he has done excellent work for the newcomers. Flanagan, in addition to being a first-class pitcher, is one of the very best and safest batters in the Western Association and a rattling first baseman. His averages for the present season up to a recent date are, batting, .315; first base, .975, while his pitching is fully up to the excellent standard obtained by him in previous seasons. [1]
