Tito Francona was an outfielder and first-baseman in the majors from 1956-1970. He is the father of Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona, who won 2 World Championships. Tito is best known for batting .363 in 1959 (10 points more than batting champion Harvey Kuenn, but falling short of the plate appearances requirment, primarily because he did not become a regular until June. (He had 443 plate appearances; 477 were required)
