  • Played baseball, basketball and football in high school.
  • Attended Clark Junior College.
  • Was named outstanding athlete at Clark Junior College.
  • Attended Portland University and was finishing his last year in 1951.
  • Played semi-pro ball but no Legion ball.

  • During World War II he was a radarman with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific participating in nine major battles.
