WACO, Tex, June 1. Editor SPORTING LIFE: It is with sad feelings that I report upon the death of William Stockamp, but better known throughout the base ball profession by the name of "Mussey," who was the third baseman of the Waco Club. He died last Friday morning at 3 A.M., after a long and slow illness, of which Harry Eliff, late of the Houstons, also died a few weeks ago. Mussey was a married man, being the father of three children, and his family resided at St. Louis, where his body has been sent for burial. Mussey was a St. Louis boy, and made his first appearance upon the Texas League diamond with Austin last season and played a great game at third base and was ranked a better player than Joyce, now with the Brooklyn Brotherhood Club. He was signed for the Waco Club by Manager Levis and was claimed by all to be the king third baseman this reason. Mussey was a jovial fellow and on account of his funny actions and ways was well-liked by all the profession. In memorial to his departed soul there was no game played in the Texas League Friday, except in Austin, where the receipts went to the benefit for his family. [1]
