The Galveston Daily News, April 24, 1868 reports on the Stonewall of Houston beating the R. E. Lee of Galveston 34-5, at the San Jacinto battlefield on the 21st, and thereupon claiming to be state champions.
Galveston is about 50 miles SE of Houston and on the Gulf of Mexico.
