According to M. Wright, The NABBP [page 40], the Washington Club of Hempstead, Long Island, was a member of the NABBP in 1859.
Hempstead is about 15 miles E of mid-Brooklyn NY. Thus, the Washington club may be the first base ball club in what is today Long Island.
