The Quincy (IL) Whig Sept. 1, 1868 says that a Hannibal BBC will soon visit Quincy to play a match game against the local team.
Hannibal MO (current pop. about 17,500) is about 110 miles NW of St. Louis and on the Mississippi River. It is the boyhood home of serious base ball fan Mark Twain. Wikipedia: "The town has other distinctions as well. In the Broadway musical Damn Yankees, Hannibal was the hometown of the protagonist’s assumed persona (Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, MO)."
