The Little Rock Daily Arkansas Gazette, June 28, 1867, has a letter from Hot Springs of June 25th, saying “Various forms of amusement are here resorted to … In front of the stately Sumpter House each evening… there collects a group of athletes and run the rare sport of base-ball.”
