The village of Ontonagon MI (current pop. about 1770) is in the western part of the Upper Peninsula and is about 200 miles N of Green Bay WI on Lake Superior.

In the summer the sun sets over Lake Superior at 10pm local time with dusk lasting until almost 11pm. By contrast in the winter the sun does not rise until just before 9am and it is still pitch black at 8am."
