"The base ball season is upon us, and the boys are busy at it every day in the park."

"Fourth of July Programme: ....."there will be a basket picnic dinner, after which there will be a matched game of base ball in the City Park, followed by a sack race..."

Western Advance for July 11, 1874 only mentioned that a base ball game was played.
