The Vicksburg Daily Commercial, August 2, 1877, reports a match game between the Resolutes of Vicksburg and the Moral of Meridian, at the “Machine Shop” in Vicksburg.

Meridian MS (burned by General Sherman in 1864 -- pop. in 1870 was about 2700, now about 41,000) is about 90 miles E of Jackson and about 130 miles E of Vicksburg.
