William D. McCain’s The Story of Jackson (1953), asserts that the Capital Base Ball Club was formed here in 1866. In 1870 the Lone Star and the Capital played the Pelican club of nearby Canton.
Canton MS (pop. about 13,000)is about 20 miles N of Jackson.
